Brazilian-American soprano Sophia Hunt's performances have been praised as "trenchant" and "vocally skilled" (Opera News), "exceptionally strong both vocally and dramatically" (Parterre Box), and "vibrant and musically intelligent" (Broad Street Review). Sophia is a recent graduate of the Dutch National Opera Studio. She was the top prize winner in the 2023 Gerda Lissner Foundation International Vocal Competition, as well as a national semifinalist in the 2022 Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition.

Big big BIG thank you to the @metoperacompetition - I’m honored to be in this group, and so excited to sing again in Boston in January!

Die Fledermaus was the first opera I ever saw, and I loved getting to dive back into Rosalinde this weekend. It was so fun to be a part of the fabulous @lawrencegolanconductor and @york_symphony’s celebration of Strauss’ 200th birthday - and singing alongside @ethanburck and @emilie.kealani!!

10 days of true vacation (?!?!) playing tourist in my own home city / walking endless steps with portable fans / eating everything delicious, all with the sweetest friend @misspollywally, was everything needed and more 🍕

So so excited to join the @nederlandsphilharmonisch for two concerts in the NedPhO-Koepel, tomorrow and Saturday!
I can’t wait to sing two wishlist pieces - Villa-Lobos’ Bachiana no. 5, which I’ve sung so many times but now finally get to experience with seven (!!) celli, and the Rachmaninoff vocalise, a new-to-me one I’m already in love with.

Many many many thanks for the birthday wishes this week, from near and far! I had the best day celebrating in a joint birthday / send-off for the best roommates of all time, @martinamysk_mezzo and Lulu 🐾
I spent a lot of the day looking around and thinking about how lucky I’ve been to be a part of this little family we’ve built in Amsterdam. Wrapping up my studio time and getting ready to leave this beautiful city in a month, but these people will stay with me 💕💕💕

On the road to Heerlen for our final Dido today! Never have I ever…. sung six performances of a show, three of which were on tour, in a week and a half. It’s been hectic and fun and wild and I’m sad to say goodbye to this team! 🪄 🔮🩸🦹🏻

Happy OPENING night to this wonderful wonderful Dido team! It’s been so fun to hop around with triple role duty for this one, as 2nd Woman / 1st Witch / Spirit 🧙🏻‍♀️… and feels very fitting to have my last show as part of the @nationaleoperaballet studio be surrounded by such great singer friends. And what a FUN time to get to sing with @camilledelaforge and members of @ensembleilcaravaggio and @nederlandskamerorkest !!!

It was the biggest, most wonderful joy to sing a (sold-out!) recital with @daniel_ruizdcc in the Concertgebouw this week. What a sacred space to get to experience filling with music.
And the best bonus was getting to have some of my favorite people in the world - from near and far - there with us! ♥️

So super super excited to join @daniel_ruizdcc TOMORROW for some of my favorite songs out there. In 2014, I heard a Bach concert at the Concertgebouw just as I was deciding to pursue singing professionally - I would never have guessed that 11 years later, I’d be living in Amsterdam and getting to sing there for the first time.

Over the past four days, we had a concert on Cape Cod, two at the 92Y, and finished up in Montauk last night. I’m so, so touched by all the friends who came to concerts on this tour and watched from afar, especially the sizable (huge) group in NYC!

The past few weeks have meant so much - I’m lucky beyond words to have “grown up” at @curtisinstitute, and I’m so grateful to make music with this group here. ♥️

We kicked off our tour with a super fun concert in Philly last weekend, followed by the most beautiful week of performing (and enjoying the sunshine) on Nantucket. So grateful to make music with this team, and to be a part of the @curtisinstitute family. ♥️
And now for a busy week of concerts in Falmouth MA (Monday), New York City (Tuesday/Wednesday), and Montauk (Thursday)!! ✨

So SO excited to join @curtisinstitute and fellow alums Roberto Díaz, @hansarahan and @yinglipianist for an East Coast recital tour later this month! Chamber music is my first love, and I’m so looking forward to singing and exploring with this group. Would love to have friendly faces in the audience - please join if you’re in the area!!

It was a total joy to cover in DNO’s production of Traviata over the past couple of months, and to get to step in for several days of stage/orchestra rehearsals.
As anyone who has done a jump-in knows, nothing means more than colleagues who are kind and generous. This whole team made every day exciting and a wild situation about a million times less stressful and a million times more FUN.
And just a word to all other sopranos - should you ever be given an opportunity to cover @adelazaharia.soprano, jump at it! Thank you for being incredibly kind and supportive and truly an inspiration to get to watch every day ❤️

Spent the past week exploring London / showing my favorite guest around Amsterdam / recording a lot of singing / running a half marathon ✨ I’m the luckiest daughter out there to have this mama by my side ❤️

So much fun performing on the main stage for the first time at yesterday’s open house! Feeling really lucky to be singing in a city with so much excitement for opera, and especially with this group of people. ❤️

First day!!! So excited for all of the adventures to come ❤️

As pretty much anyone I’ve spoken to over the last two months knows, I decided that before moving to Europe, it was my mission to find the best black and white cookie in NYC. I’ve been in and out of the city this summer and my quest quickly became a large part of my personality, so I tried a lot of cookies (15 to be exact, thank you to my tasting helpers). I feel it’s my duty to share that the reigning winner by FAR is from Lee Lee’s Baked Goods in Harlem - their cookies are perfect and the shop is perfect and if you’re ever in NYC you should go 🖤🤍

@taylorswift is a masterclass in making a stadium of people feel like she’s singing directly to them 💕
And nobody I’d rather experience it with than the girl who’s been a bestie for 15 years, which happens to be about as long as we’ve been listening to this music ✨

Such a fun weekend of west coast sunshine! Super grateful to have sung in the Zachary Foundation final concert with a fabulous group of singers, and to have had a couple of days packed with great music, LA adventures, and catching up with old friends 💕

I haven’t had too many chances to sing in NYC the past few years, but last night made up for all of it and more! I was so so happy to make my @carnegiehall debut as part of the Gerda Lissner Foundation winners concert. It was such a joy to share the stage with these fabulous singers and the amaaazing @arleneshrut, and to get to have so many people I love in the audience.
Thank you thank you thank you to the @gerdalissnerfoundation for the enormous honor, and for making last night so special!! ✨

Eight years later and alllll done with school! I’m so very very grateful for the past year in Bloomington, and for everyone I got to sing with, learn from, and laugh with! But above all I’m thankful for @vishnauskas, who was the reason I came here, and who has made Bloomington a home, given me a whole little family here, gone above and beyond for me, and been the best teacher and friend I could ever wish for - on day one and every day since. She also lets me steal her dog a lot. ❤️

So honored and thankful to have won the grand prize in the Orpheus Vocal Competition young artist division last night! And alongside @w_upham and @tristan_tournaud as the first and second place student division winners!! Such a fun weekend with wonderful people 💕

One month, seven countries, thirteen cities! Doing a solo European audition tour has been exciting and terrifying and so wonderful and so stressful.

We always say that opera is one big family, but I’ve honestly never felt that more. Thank you thank you thank you to all of the friends, old and new, who showed me around, hosted me, gave me advice, introduced me to their own friends and colleagues, and cheered me on via FaceTime (equally important sometimes). Headed home, very tired but very grateful ❤️
